Andrew has been active in the Financial Services industry for the whole of his working life and, after spells with Guardian Assurance and Fenchurch Insurance Broking Group, joined Richard Thacker & Co Ltd in 1973, acquiring part of this business to set up A J Smith & Co in 1983.  This business expanded over the years offering specialised advice on pensions, employee benefits and personal investments to both individuals and small businesses.

Andrew qualified in 1980 with the Associateship of The Chartered Insurance Institute and has since added a number of further qualifications to enable him to deal with specialised pension and mortgage business.  The long planned 2010 merger with Prest Financial Services has enabled Andrew (in the period leading up to his planned retirement) to ensure that there will be continuity of a high level of financial advice and service for his clients, many of whom have relied on his support and expertise for more than 30 years.

Andrew and his wife Linden, who has been a source of support and encouragement throughout his business life, have been married for 38 years and have 4 adult children and a first grandchild born in the Summer of 2010.
